He Leads Me — Psalm 23

A reminder for the seasons when you can’t see the whole path ahead.

He Leads Me was inspired by Psalm 23 — one of the most loved passages in Scripture and a picture of God as a Shepherd who faithfully guides, provides for and stays near His people.

David begins the Psalm with the words, “The Lord is my shepherd.”

That image would have been deeply personal to him. Before David became king, he was a shepherd himself. He understood what it meant to lead sheep toward food and water, protect them from danger and guide them along paths they could not navigate on their own.

Sheep do not have to know the entire route.

They have to know the shepherd.

That is the picture David gives us of God.

Psalm 23 does not promise that every path will be easy. In fact, only a few verses later, David speaks about walking through the valley of the shadow of death. But even there, his confidence remains the same:

God is with him.

He Leads Me captures that quiet assurance through a shepherd moving across an open landscape with his flock following behind.
